‘Surrender’
‘Princessa’
by John Bauer (1882 – 1918 Swedish)
The Surrender card is about fully recognizing the hopelessness, the helplessness of being alive, the absolute vulnerability we all live in. To surrender is both a final act, and perhaps the most powerful one can do. To surrender is to realize and accept the fallacy of control, the limits of understanding, to remember the fates that brought one here, that the world goes on, that what will happen will happen.
Surrender is the final act to many things, as surrender drops all imaginings about importance, and ego, and attachment, and similar anchors. And surrender is a powerful act, in the full embrace of what is, is, accepting that by so many measures, our lives are less than less, and the recognition and embrace of that is a freedom gained no other way. Surrender is a dropping of weights and lies, an opening to what truly lays before oneself, an allowance of uplift, introduces the wisdom of not knowing. Surrender creates a vacuum, into which trust, and gratitude, and heart, and wonder fill, values which guide one towards a different way of living, of loving, of being.
