Of Fairies and Change

‘The Fairy Appears at Midnight’
by William H. Lister (b 1866 American)

Of late, I have been contemplating the observation that fairies, or perhaps better said, the fae, are elements of change, or catalysts. This is a subtle underlying theme throughout writings and stories and descriptions of the fae that one runs across after some time of study, that the appearance of a fairy often heralds change. It can be subtle change, or more dramatic change, but change all the same. As example, some fae are gifted with foretelling, others are associated with future events, both good and bad, and others seek to guide one’s way. All these encounters affect your choices moving forward. In general, the appearance of a fae, or fairy messages change, a change of events, change of direction, evolutionary change.

And in times of change, one’s senses heighten, one’s imagination opens to new possibilities, one’s eyes open wider as the unknown spreads out before them. That new awareness allows one to see fairies, hear their messages. Perhaps it is better to think of fairies showing up during times of change because they are easier to see. The normal world does not allow much space for fairies, but when the sleepy predictableness of our normal lives gives way to change, then we wake up, we open up. So perhaps it is better to think of the appearance of fairies as confirmation that change is happening.

I do know that to invite fairies into your life, it invites change and almost always for the better with a few guidelines, such as how to not insult them and so forth. To open to a fairy is to open to possibilities, to expand your life description and accept your understandings as only part of the picture, and in that environment, recognize that anything is possible. Fairies introduce magic, and magic can do anything. By inviting a fairy into your life, you are inviting magic, to invite the fairies Happiness or Bliss into your life, is to invite their goddess magic, and the changes they will make to be with you.

On a different level of things, the gifts I make, the charms, and palm and accent sized fairy blocks with fairy images, each and all carry a blessing with some small fairy magic, meant to attract or take root. It is the same magic for all three sizes or woodblocks, so the small charms size are the most condensed energy. The images and blessings plant a seed in ones awareness and presence, or in other words, act as a catalyst for specific change, to bring love nearer, or find restful peacefulness, or a greater understanding of trust. Consider the following –

‘Poising Herself Daintily On The Tip Of The Princess’s Thumb
And Spreading Her Wings A Little”
by Hope Dunlap (b 1881 american)
Published ‘The Rose Fairies’ (1911)

May you see
with a child’s eyes,
the wonder of the world,
of secrets and mysteries,
and many beautiful things.

By keeping a charm close to you with such as a blessing, it will subtly remind you to ‘see more, think less’ and influence your perceptions ever so slightly, remind you that our normal perceptions ignore the wonders, secrets and mysteries of the world, that we do not see much of life and creation in our daily wanderings, and also, that because we do not usually see it, does not mean it isn’t there. So the charms use the catalytic energies of the fairies to bring about gentle change, with a touch of magic to bring about specific change.

Fairy magic brings change, and healthy change is the lifeblood of life. By surrounding oneself with the reflections of the fae, of the wishings of the fairies, is to become attuned to their aesthetics, and beauty and natural beingness and overall health. Listen to the heeds of the fae, listen to the messages of the fairies, may they bring you what you seek.

That which you seek,
is also seeking you,
a reaching to each other,
an embrace of one another,
a wonderful sharing of discovery.
