Folktales by Alma – Elves and Fairies

From ‘Folktales by Alma‘

This video explores the origins of Elves and Fairies at length. Alma talks about three different origins, Scandanavian, Anglo-Saxon and Celtic of the faerie myth. She also talks at length about the relationship of Elves and Fairies. Also included is discussion about the evolution of older faeries to the the 19th century ‘fairy’.  There is a substantial amount of other information, which can be a lot to unpack. What I like about this video is the deeper discussion about the origins and influences the fairies, and how they fit into the various cultures and times she talks about. I particularly like the comment, :…explaining the origin of fairies attempts to give theories a scientific base, a form of disenchantment… to reduce the world’s mystery to explainable and understandable terms”. Indeed! Be forewarned, Alma is pretty deep into all this!
