Fairy Postcard Illustrations by Alice Marshall c 1920

‘Oh! To Be With You In The Wonderous Land Of Happiness!’

Tucks postcard (Published c. 1920)’

Alice Marshall was a lessor known English artist from the 1920’s. She designed a series of postcards, printed by Tuck Postcards from 1903 through the 1920’s and 1930’s. Little information about the artist is available, other than the publishing dates of the postcards she illustrated.

The small collection of postcards below, two sets of six postcard layouts, are somewhat unique in that they all work with a black background as a general theme. Also the figures in the illustrations are a bit ‘saucier’ than most other fairy illustrations of the time, as is the messaging on the cards. In any case, this is a unique collection and another artistic view of fairies from the 1920’s when many other illustrators were actively portraying fairies in all manners and activities.
