Series of political fairy postcards from World War 1

Shown below in the gallery are 9 from a set of twelve postcards, printed in France circa 1914 – 1918 as propaganda. The artwork depicts the allied states (England, France, Italy, Serbia, Romania, Montenegro, Russia, Japan) as anthropomorphic ‘butterfly’ figures while the enemies (Germany, Austria, Turkey, Bulgaria) were depicted as anthropomorphic ‘wasp or flying beetle’ figures (not shown – see link below).

Each illustration shows aspects from each country, such as the flag and associated colors. These were created as political propaganda pieces and issued as postcards for general disbursement.
